Ruthrieston Outdoor Sports Centre
OPENING DAY!
What a great turnout at Sport Aberdeen’s Opening Day of the Ruthrieston Outdoor Sports Centre this morning!
Congratulations and hats off to Joe and the team from Sport Aberdeen’s Community Sports Hub for coordinating a successful event and for the massive amount of work that’s been happening over the past few months. The courts are looking amazing and it was inspiring to see so many people using them this morning. The courts were opened with a speech by Sport Aberdeen’s Chairman Tony Dawson, who coached tennis at this very space over 40 years ago!
Well done to pupils at Broomhill School for the amazing artworks and to Robert Gordon's Pipe Band for an emotional performance.
And massive thanks to volunteers Ronan, Steve, Cllr Martin Greig, Cllr Ian Yuill, and young Clara for helping out on the day.
The Lawn Tennis Association has generously contributed to achieve this excellent, high quality sporting upgrade for the area. It was a welcome opportunity to socialise and enjoy Sport Aberdeen’s kind hospitality.
The courts are available for booking. No membership required. Details of the courts are on Sport Aberdeen’s website, now available for booking through the ClubSpark webpage:

Help Us Save The Church Building As A Safe Place For All
One Voice Committee Letter:
Unfortunately, we have to share the disappointing news regarding the possible closure of Holburn West Parish Church. As part of The Church of Scotland’s Presbytery Mission Plan, The General Trustees of the Church are required to advise on the suitability of church buildings and presbyteries are required to categorise buildings into one of two categories:
a) To be retained beyond the five years from the date at which the Mission Plan is approved or annually reviewed, or;
b) To be sold, let, or otherwise disposed of by a specified date which is within five years from the date at which the ecclesiastical building is first categorised as (b).
In the hope of maintaining the Church building as an asset to the community, members of the Church, City Councillor Martin Greig and Ashley & Broomhill Community Council are currently discussing the possibility of converting the building into a Community Centre. This would be a welcome idea to many as there is a lack of public space in the area. We are in contact with those currently using the building and reaching out to similar organisations as well as the public/community, to get feedback on whether this would be of interest. Please fill in the short questionnaire below and let us know your thoughts.
Members of The Church and Ashley & Broomhill Community Council are looking to create a group committee to promote and explore the future use of the current Holburn West Kirk premises for the benefit of the community. The group will represent the Community and work in partnership with other organisations. The group will produce a business plan and a feasibility study regarding the future of the Holburn West Kirk premises to be presented to The General Trustees of the Church of Scotland. Membership shall be open to all members of the community and organisations active in the community who share the aims of the group, that is to maintain the Kirk premises as a community asset that will benefit everyone in the area. Further information on the establishment of this Group will be sent out in due course and additional meetings will be held to discuss this. Meetings will be open to anyone interested in learning more about joining the group.
Best wishes,
Holburn West Parish Church &
Ashley & Broomhill Community Council
